Chapter 8 â Independence
The next couple of weeks went by rather quickly. I continued reviewing and selecting gifts or upgrades for people every week. When I finished the second week, I was able to upgrade my gift again, giving me an option called Raise the Bar (Passive). It passively added a percentage of my leveling to all my connections that were at least at a friend level with me.
We formed hunting parties, and went looking for large transformed animals. I had many opportunities to use the portal power to kill animals by teleporting them into the air to fall. Because we were able to harvest crystals, the job was more exciting and not so tedious.
Katrina, Jill, and Helen had their rings because we were able to get the larger crystals. Only Lina and I could configure them, though. Katrina chose to augment her foresight power rather than choosing flight. Jill and Helen both chose Telekinesis after I convinced them it was better than Fly. It took more practice for them to be able to fly because they were essentially carrying themselves. Lina spent her time churning out flight rings as we got larger crystals for the other heroes in all the offices starting with our team. For those rings, we burned in their settings and locked them down to the person receiving it.
Back near the ranch, we closed off a canyon to use as a holding pen for transformed animals. Lina had set up mana dampeners, so the animals wouldnât sense anything outside the canyon.
At the start of the next week, Linda, Addy, and Judy joined our team training session.
Gale was very excited. âYes! Weâve got the benders together! I canât wait to see what weâll be able to do. We just have to get you three leveled up.â
Kailee moaned. âNow, weâre never going to hear the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender!â
I said, âGood to see the three of you. I thought you were in the military, Judy?â
She smiled. âKatrina got a hold of me, and suggested that I transfer to the Agency. I thought about it for a while, and decided to take the plunge. I thought the freedom and opportunity to do more significant things would be good. Thanks again for getting me started down the right road. Katrina seemed to think that Iâd have a much better chance of leveling up with the Agency.â
I replied, âSounds great. Youâre welcome.â
Angela chuckled. âDJ has a knack for helping people get better with their gift. We all took off once he was helping.â
I smiled. âThanks.â
Addy nodded. âKatrina did ask that you help us with our training.â
Angela smirked. âSee. Katrina is always a step or two ahead.â
I nodded. âThat she is. You can take care of their combat training, and Iâll focus on their meditation sessions and gift.â
âSounds good.â
I looked at the three ladies, and said, âLetâs go over to the corner to talk and then meditate.â
We walked over to the corner and sat in a circle. I asked, âSo
